Sure, the Gutenprint drivers work, but they just aren’t the same. Sure, even a month in, there are some mild annoyances – I lost the use of the full drivers for my home printer. Luckily, iStat was updated soon after the 10.6 release, and I’ve got some good leads for Palm compatibility, so I’m 99% good to go. My only major losses were iStat Menus and iSync compatibility with my Palm Centro. Fortunately, most of the programs I use every day were already 10.6-compatible. One by one, I added new apps and utilities to my system, making sure to check their compatibility as I went. Looking back on the last month, things went surprisingly well. I took advantage of having a “pristine” system and installed Snow Leopard on it immediately. Coincidentally, my MacBook Pro arrived right around that same time. Each menu extra comes with many different display modes, customizable colours, font sizes and widths.A month ago today, Apple released OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The memory dropdown menu shows a list of the top 5 memory hogs, as well as other useful info. Memory stats for your menubar, shown as a pie chart, graph, percentage, bar or any combination of those things. Detailed info on your battery's current state and a highly configurable menu item that can change if you're draining, charging, or completely charged. Fan speeds can be controlled, with different rules when on battery power, if you'd like. Realtime listings of the sensors in your Mac, including temperatures, hard drive temperatures (where supported), fans, voltages, current and power. Detailed disk I/O in your menubar, displayed as a graph, a variety of different read and write indicators, or both. More detail for all your disks is only a click away. The toolbar icons all provide basic information, and clicking them reveals much more detail in drop-down window form. IStat Menus for Mac is a convenient addition to your computer, and it lets you get a quick glimpse inside whenever you need. While the program is easy enough to set up for a novice, there isn't enough explanation of anything to make the information displayed understandable to anyone but an experienced user. Not for beginners: The information displayed in the program won't be of much use to anyone without a decent level of computer knowledge. You can also drag and drop the icons in the top toolbar to rearrange them to your liking. Each category has its own switch on the main interface that you can slide off if you're not interested in displaying that information. Monitor switches: You can choose to monitor whatever combination of systems you want. While you could have accessed at least some of this information on your own, the app puts it all in one place and makes it much easier to find whenever you need to. Prosĭetailed information: This app provides detailed information about CPU activity, Memory Usage, Disk Usage, Network Activity, Sensors such as Fan Speed and Temperature, Date and Time, and Battery. With just a glance, you'll get a good idea about what's going on in your machine, and you can get much more detailed information by selecting one of the icons that sit in the top toolbar.
